Maintenance of Your Infinity Fountain

An infinity fountain is a great way to add the sound and movement of water to your garden.  Water is pumped from a hidden reservoir through the fountain piece and then seemingly disappears into the ground.  Below are simple maintenance instructions.

Weekly:

Remove leaves and debris from rock surface to prevent filter from clogging.

Apply Fountec Algaecide/ Clarifier.
Algae will grow more with more sunlight, so fountains out in the garden receiving natural sunlight will need a chemical control.  Use Fountec weekly per label instructions.  If you've missed some applications, and you  have an algae outbreak, take the fountain apart, scrub the pot, basin, and pump.  You can use Clorox on rocks (immersing the rock in Clorox and water then letting dry), but do not use Clorox on the pot, basin, and pump as it can damage surfaces.

Monthly:

Apply Protec Scale/ Stain Remover.

Protec removes scales and deposits, cleans metal stains on surfaces, and prevents pump damage from mineral buildup and corrosion.  Read product label for complete instructions.  For best results, Protec recommends draining water feature every 3 months, refilling, and then reapplying, especially in the summer when we are experiencing high evaporation or excessive splashing, which causes excessive calcium buildup.

As needed:

Add water to reservoir.
Clean filter of debris.

Trouble shooting:
Check water level in reservoir- fill as needed.
Check filter for debris- clean as needed.

If pump stops running:
Check the outlet plug- reset as necessary.
Check the filter for debris- clean as needed.
Check water level in reservoir- fill as needed.

If water flow has slowed:
Check filter for debris- clean as needed.
Check water level in reservoir- fill as needed.
Check for kinks in tubing between pump and fountain.

To calculate volume of water in infinity fountains for chemical maintenance:
2'x2' is 30 gallons+10 gallons for pot= 40 gallons
3'x 3' is 65 gallons+20 gallons for pot= 85 gallons
4'x4' is 100 gallons+30 gallons for pot= 130 gallons
